Home - Linux - mysql

On FlamingText.com I use mysql to store all the user data. This page contains some information about what we have done and why.

Might I first add that the mysql documentation that comes with it, and on-line is excellent. I would use that first before referring to my documents which no doubt contains errors.

Security
By default in redhat, your firewall will not project the mysql connection port. This is done by protecting port 3306. (are there others). Funnily enough I was driven to do this when some very expensive hosters that I found had errors in their php scripts, and from that it gave me machine that the database was, and that it wasn't protected. I sent them info to this regard, and then promptly protected my own. :-)

More info is in my firewall information page.

I made these pages to provide some information about the setup that I have done, but I did not proofread it for correctness, and in most cases did not test it. There are commands in these pages that would definately delete or corrupt all the data on your computer (especially the dualboot section). In fact it happened to me.... So you are on your own!
